GoToMeeting Recording and Mac OS X

GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar are really popular products. They provide low cost, self service, and scaleable webinar solutions. One major complaint from our clients is that GoToMeeting’s free recording will not play on a Mac. Why is this? Let’s take a deeper look.

GoToMeeting uses to the Window Media Video (WMV) format. A typical, and typical is used loosely, WMV file will play on a Mac using
Flip4Mac. But, WMV is just a container. The codec, or compression, used within the container is what determines the quality and compatibility. GoToMeeting uses a proprietary, Windows only video codec called G2M2 or G2M3. This codec is not supported on Mac OS X with Flip4Mac.

Most of our clients want their webinar recordings to look and sound as good, if not better, than the live event. They also want to be able to have their recordings in a more standard format like Flash Video (.flv) or QuickTime (.mov). Additionally, if you are a host who uses a Mac, the GoToMeeting client for Mac users does not support any recording functionality.

The solution is to use Virtual Event Recording’s
Webinar Recording service to record your next GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar event. We record using broadcast grade equipment and monitor the entire event to ensure quality. After the event, we securely deliver your file within 24hrs in any format you desire.

We can also edit and convert your existing GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar Recordings to a more universal format like Flash Video, QuickTime, or a DVD. Additionally, we can edit, add to, or fix your current recordings without any quality loss.
